the hotel (which was a motel)

rocky walks to the bar (tin in hand)

these are some exterior locations which we will be using for rocky's walk to the bar after his car gets stolen by the gideon. unfortunately the 'read the bible' billboard has since been replaced by an ad for wheels or some such thing. we will also be using the factories in williamstown pictured in the second blog entry.

taleeho

me and jimmy ventured back out to taleeho riding school and this time it was a smashing success. danielle and peter took us around the school and allowed us to bond with a few of the horses. the landscape in the area is amazing. we will try and shoot all the western scenes around the acreage. it only took us thirty-ish minutes to get there.

this place excites me.

some motels

these are a few of the motels which we have been looking at. paul at the burwood east motel was very receptive but it may be a bit too far and the colour scheme is not entirely right. max at the motel ringwood was also receptive. The motel has a great look, but again it is a little too far. i've become cautious about placing the film geographically and as such, i would prefer a motel without the suburb in it's title. the elizabeth tower hotel is great for it's colour scheme and title. the interior rocks and the staircase is amazing. i am waiting to hear from the manager regarding possible costs associated with filming there.

i need to get some photos of the parade inn on royal parade which has offered an opportunity to film at a great price and the arden motel in north melbourne which has allowed me to use the exterior only. it is a beautiful building.

the blue wall

this is the blue wall outlined in scene 15.

as a side note: myself and dave drove to office works today to organise the corporate video scene. due to my overzealous explanation of what i wanted and why, and more particularly my overuse of the words 'pyramid scheme' and 'dodgy' in reference to characters in the script, the shooting-inside-officeworks ship may have prematurely set sail. i am hoping to visit some smaller independent furniture stores this weekend to discuss shooting the informational video.

taleeho riding school (wyndham vale) recce

jimmy and i drove out to taleeho riding school in wyndham vale on monday to scout the western scenes of the film. due to bad timing we missed our opportunity to discuss the horse scenes with danielle from the school but managed to get a few photos of the surrounding area. we'll be heading out again on monday. it looks perfect for what we need.

the beginning

All The Tired Horses (WT) is a modern melodrama blended with western themes and iconography. The film follows Rocky, a down-and-out traveling salesman, on his final sales tour. Rocky keeps his dreary existence interesting by imagining himself as the embodiment of The Man With No Name from the spaghetti westerns with which he is obsessed. The products, which Rocky and the other salesmen are selling, are hard sell items, which are largely not available for purchase in the modern marketplace. He is selling anti-static tails (thin, rubber, deionizing devices for cars.) With the prospect of unemployment looming and depending solely on his performance on this tour, the majority of Rocky’s attention remains elsewhere as he tries to win the affections of a female co-worker named Nancy. With no sign of an improvement in his sales figures and hearing that his boss and Nancy are to marry, Rocky’s western fantasies quickly become delusions. Upon finding a pair of handguns at the peak of his despair, and educating himself on their use via audiocassette from the library, Rocky stumbles into a final confrontation with his bullying boss.
